How to make the perfect iced coffee every time

I love coffee. I'm not going to lie. I mean... why would anyone lie about loving coffee?

Unless you're being annoyed by one of those anti-coffee accounts on Instagram. Those folks are nutty—and not in the good way... like a nice dark roast.

Where was I? Oh, right—I love coffee. I could drink it all day, every day and be just fine.

But let's face it, sometimes hot coffee is just too much. Especially in the summer months.

That's where iced coffee comes in. In the summer, there's nothing quite like a cold, refreshing cup of iced coffee. Not only does it taste delicious, but it can also help you stay cool on a hot day.

Iced coffee is also incredibly easy to make. For a single serving, you can simply fill a glass full of ice cubes, brew your favorite coffee blend and pour the coffee over the cubes. Of course, you can add milk, cream, or sweeteners if you like, but the coffee will be just as tasty without it.

You can make a perfect batch of iced coffee right at home with these instructions (and a few extra tips at the end!). Keep reading to learn how to make perfect iced coffee—every time:

What You'll Need:

  • A pitcher or jar
  • Coffee beans
  • A coffee grinder
  • A coffee maker
  • Milk (optional)
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Start by grinding your coffee beans. You'll want to use a coarse grind, as a finer grind will make for muddy iced coffee.
  2. Place the ground coffee in your coffee maker and brew according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Once the coffee is finished brewing, add milk and sugar to taste (if desired).
  4. Pour the coffee into a pitcher or jar filled with ice cubes and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Make sure to pour the coffee onto the ice cubes and not directly onto bare glass to avoid shattering.
  • Try brewing a little extra coffee to account for the ice cubes. You can always add more water later if the coffee is too strong.
  • If you find that your iced coffee is too watered down, try freezing some of the coffee in ice cube trays. This way, you can add the frozen coffee cubes to your glass and they will help keep the drink cold without watering it down.
  • The flavor profile of a coffee can taste very different when you make iced coffee with it versus making hot coffee. Experiment with different roasts and blends to find the perfect beans for your iced coffee.
  • Unlike cold brew coffee, you'll want to drink iced coffee right away rather than storing it in the fridge.
  • Remember to use a coarser grind. Fine grinds can result in muddy iced coffee.

Iced coffee is the perfect way to enjoy your favorite brew on a hot day. And by following these simple tips, you can make sure your iced coffee is always perfect—no matter how much of a hurry you're in this summer.

So go ahead and put your feet up, relax, and enjoy a cold glass of iced coffee—you know you deserve it.
