For those of us who are not the type to wait in a long line for an over priced Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks finding good coffee shops while traveling or even in our own cities can be a daunting task.

While apps like Yelp can list local shows, you'll end up spending hours sifting through the reviews to find one enticing enough to visit. Greensboro may not be the coffee capitol of the United States but like all cities there are some great hidden gems for you caffeine addicts to try.

To make it easier here are 5 great options while in the Greensboro area. While we list 5options these are not true rankings as we will leave that up to you.

Our 5 Coffee Shops To Visit in Greensboro, NC

1. Tate Street Coffee House

  • 334 Tate St Greensboro, NC 27403

For those looking for a coffee shop serving Organic Fair Trade Coffee this is the shop for you. Tate Street Coffee House is located in the heart of downtown Greensboro and right next to the campuses of UNC Greensboro and Greensboro College. They offer a wide variety of amazing drink options which include coffee's, latte's, espresso, hot chocolate and even apple cider.

Tate Street also offers a variety of delicious baked goods, sandwiches and bagels to go along with your morning caffeine kick. They are open seven days a week and while all coffee shops open early, Tate Street is open till 6pm every night for the after work crowd.

What Makes Them Stand Out: Tate Street up's their game even further by bringing in local musicians and serving both wine and local beers on tap. This makes Tate Street more than just a coffee shop.

2. Coffeeology

  • 423 Tate St Greensboro, NC 27403

Coffeeology is another Tate Street coffee shop (we're sensing a trend here) that you should visit. Offering a full menu of coffee options in every brewing style paired with smoothies and specialty coffee concoctions you will not leave without finding the perfect drink.

Coffeeology also has a large food menu with choices like avocado toast, waffles, egg sandwiches and bagels for breakfast and brunch. For those looking for some dessert they serve some delicious gelato.

Just like Tate Street Coffee they are open seven days a week and till 6pm.

What Makes Them Stand Out: Coffeeology proudly supports local businesses and gets their coffee beans, bagels, breads and gelato's from local suppliers.

3. Green Joes Coffee Co

  • 2915A Battleground Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27408\

Green Joe's Coffee Co is located right on battleground avenue on the northwest side of the city. While they serve all of the standard coffee options Green Joes is known for their large selection of unique specialty drinks. Try flavors like their Chocolate Cheesecake and Charcoal Mocha or even their Dirty Chai Tea.

Green Joe's has a smaller food menu then our first two offering bagels and pastries. While they are both great options we are surprised they do not offer more considering the size of the facility.

What Makes Them Stand Out: Green Joe's offer barista training and coffee 101 classes for those looking to enhance their how brewing game. Reviews for those who have attended are all positive.

4. Common Grounds

  • 602 S Elam Ave Greensboro, NC 27403

This is one of our more unique options on the list. Common Grounds is nothing fancy on first site but their coffee certainly makes up for it. If you are the type who likes those unique and less corporate feeling coffee shops this is the place for you.

Common Grounds has a good selection of large muffins and bagels and of course all the common coffee selections. You will find some of their coffee menu written right on the wall.

What Makes Them Stand Out: Common Grounds has a back room with a pool table and book swap area for those who want a little competitive entertainment with their coffee or the select beers on tap when Common Grounds brings in some music in the evening.

5. The Jumping Bean

  • 7200 Summerfield Road, Summerfield, NC

While this location is not technically Greensboro we felt it belonged on the list. The Jumping Bean is located just outside the city and right up Battleground Avenue this is a little coffee shack on wheels (although it is permanently parked).

Driving up this looks like a tiny house with a line of cars. This is the only drive-thru on the list. They have a great selection of coffee and a ton of flavor options plus some smoothies for the non caffeinated type.

All of their pastries and cookies are baked locally and delivered every morning with a rotating batch of flavors.

What Makes Them Stand Out: While many drive-thru's look more like parking lots these days this little coffee shack moves their line at an impressive speed. For those looking for a quick coffee while running late for work this is a great option.

Final Thoughts

While these are some of our favorites in the area there are many more great options around Greensboro and surrounding towns. For honorable mention check out Green Bean on Elm, Caribou Coffee and Union Coffee.
