The video below by Dr. Berg helps answer all the questions about natures most wonderful and legal drug....Caffeine.

As you can see in the video caffeine has some great benefits when consumed within reason. Consuming pots of coffee, caffeine pills, powders and other supplement forms can give you a quick "upper" followed by a crash and craving for more.

Unlike black coffee, energy drinks are often filled with loads of sugar. Sugar aids in the energy rush but will cause a severe and quick crash leaving you feeling tired and moody again. So you grab another energy drink and restart the cycle. On top of the sugar many are loaded with various other stimulants which can actually accelerate the effects of caffeine.

Why is this bad? Well caffeine takes time for the body to digest giving you a longer lasting energy level. Stimulants loaded on top of of the caffeine will cause a faster absorption (Making you feel like you can run through a wall) and a quicker crash.

Keep in mind caffeine acts like a drug. Your body will build up a tolerance over time leaving you craving more and more. The effect of caffeine will begin to weaken over time unless you start upping your daily intake.

The problem? Caffeine withdrawal will start to set in over time if you do not hit your daily quota for caffeine consumption. Healthline explains the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal here: Read More

So how does caffeine actually work in the body? It acts as a stimulant effecting the central nervous system as well as the heart. Caffeine connects to adenosine receptors in the brain without actually activating them.By doing this, caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine which results in reduced tiredness, stress, irritability and overall fatigue. Studies have shown that caffeine may even increase adrenaline levels in the blood, stimulate an increase in brain function and activity of dopamine.
